Introduction OTC TOUCH SENSOR
High-Speed Workpiece Detection • Advanced Joint Searching Platforms
OTC DAIHEN Cobots accessories offers a range of advanced touch sensors specifically designed for robotic welding applications. These include models like FD-WDS / FD-WD‑H touch sensors and the FD-QD 3D laser “touchless” sensor, each engineered to detect weld joint variations and part deviations with high speed and accuracy.
Key Features
- Real-time deviation detection: FD-WDS and FD-WD-H sensors use the weld wire itself to detect linear variations, sense surface angles, and locate precise touch points—without requiring any extra hardware.
- Fast and accurate “touch” sensing: These sensors perform quick searches at high speeds up to 118 in/min, reducing multiple program steps down to just one or two commands for simple macro integration.
- Non-contact, 3D part search: The FD-QD sensor projects laser stripes to perform 3D scans of parts, aligning robot programs with actual workpiece positions, even on complex or thin materials. Capable of processing speeds up to 200 cm/min, it adapts to part deviations without disrupting the active weld flow.
Integration & Compatibility
All sensors are fully integrated with OTC DAIHEN robots and controllers, and are completely operable directly through the standard teach pendant interface. With no need for bulky external PCs or complex intermediate wiring, setup, calibration, and live monitoring become streamlined, safe, and highly user-friendly.
Benefits for Welding Applications
- Improved weld accuracy: Sensors track seam deviations and joint features, enabling precise torch angle and gap adjustments during active welding cycles.
- Enhanced productivity: Quick scanning routines drastically reduce setup downtime, while adaptive tracking means fewer cycle interruptions due to raw part misalignment.
- Versatility: The FD-QD sensor fully supports MIG, TIG, and plasma welding processes, while the FD-WDS / FD-WD‑H models suit metal plates with highly varying thickness or scale-covered surface conditions.
- Ease of use: Pre-programmed SF-command routines and native built-in teach pendant software menus eliminate complex programming architecture.
Applications & Use Cases
- • High-precision seam tracking for both thick plate and ultra-thin sheet materials.
- • Automated part alignment inside complex multi-station robotic welding cells.
- • Adaptive real-time correction of critical weld start and stop locations.
- • Dynamic angle compensation and structural surface orientation detection.
